My first few years in a new country were more about understanding and coming to terms with my new role as an immigrant. Now, nine years after living in the USA, I am in an environment where we feel more accepted, not simply tolerated. This change has enabled me to dig deep into my cultural heritage and bring that influence into my art in an unexplored manner. I do this with newfound acceptance and understanding that I do not walk this path alone; but instead with the knowledge and guidance of my ancestors, specifically of the women who came before me.
